H.E. President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially launched the Call and Data Centre this Thursday, a brainchild of the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services in its quest to disseminate information to all corners of the country.
Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Call and Data Centre which was made possible through financial assistance from Innscor Africa Limited and Liquid Telecoms is part of Government’s efforts to curb fake news by availing a toll-free live platform for citizens to get factual information regarding Covid-19 and any other issues as well as to decongest the already existing Ministry of Health and Child Care toll-free number.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony, H. E. President Mnangagwa expressed gratitude towards private sector participation in national matters, particularly during this pandemic period.
The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said the Call and Data Centre will be working to relay the correct information to the general public for free in an effort to eradicate the rapid spread of fake news being circulated especially on social media.
The Call and Data Centre will be run 24/7 and it will also assist with the dissemination of information to the whole country at the touch of a button and the toll free number is 2023.
The operation of the Call and Data centre will be in existence for the unforeseeable future, as it will be the go-to port for all government information and a place for quick facts on all Zimbabwean issues.
