Civil servants are taking the lead in getting COVID-19 booster shots to curb the spread of the Omicron variant.
Some public service commissioners and senior government officials received their booster jabs at Gweru General Hospital this Wednesday.
The booster jab is meant to contain the COVID-19 Omicron variant which has a high number of mutations with the number of cases increasing at an alarming rate across the globe.
“We are saying every civil servant should get proper vaccination. This is a national exercise meant to assist the citizens to fight the ongoing pandemic. The booster is here for all to get assisted and we are simply saying this is your time to get the jab,” Commissioner Charles Manzini of the Public Service Commission said.
Commissioner Manzini also took the opportunity to assure civil servants that government is working tirelessly to improve their working conditions.
“We have a template as government. We are saying every civil servant should get the necessary assistance from government in the best interests of our workers. We are making all the necessary deals to ensure that all our workers are taken care of.”
Government has among other interventions incentivised civil servants through COVID-19 allowances in hard currency.
