At least 1,5 million children are set to benefit from the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) as government cushions the vulnerable from the shocks of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As schools re-opened after a long break due to Covid-19, government is ready to roll out the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) programme for the benefit of more than 1, 5 million learners who need assistance.

This figure has been increased from 600 thousand as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected family incomes.

“We urge parents to apply and education officers to assist by forwarding the names to ministry. We have the budget and we are looking at paying for every child who needs the assistance,” Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Honourable Lovemore Matuke said.

The fund will also cater for those who are writing examinations as government insists that no child should be left out on account of financial challenges.

The move comes as a huge relief as the nation continues on its thrust to rebuild the economy, while ensuring the vulnerable are catered for.
