Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister, Dr Anxious Masuka, says government has started paying the outstanding payments of $1.5 billion owed to farmers from the previous marketing season.

He was responding to questions from legislators in Parliament this afternoon.

“We want to ensure cotton farmers that 66 million dollars was released for paying their dues. We shall visit depots with challenges in paying farmers but we urge them to submit their account numbers,” said Hon. Masuka.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Honourable Kazembe Kazembe updated the house on the private company contracted by government to produce national identity cards.

The Registrar General’s Offices have of late witnessed long queues with citizens desperate to acquire national documents including passports, identity cards and birth certificates.
