Government has commended contractors working on the Beitbridge- Chirundu Highway, saying the quality work on the 100 km completed so far has been impressive.

With over 100 kilometres completed so far and contractors now working to reach the 200km mark by year-end, the government says it is impressed with the quality of work on the Beitbridge-Chirundu Highway.

The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes, Dr Joram Gumbo toured parts of the highway under construction in the Mushagashe area this Saturday.

“This is a very old road, it was done in the 1950s. It had outlived its lifespan. So this improvement we have under the new dispensation is something we are proud of.”

Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Ezra Chadzamira, who accompanied Dr Gumbo on the tour was upbeat about the business opportunities that come with good road infrastructure.

Five contractors are currently working on the rehabilitation of the highway.
