Consistent budgetary support towards the media sector has been cited as critical for the true Zimbabwean story to be told by locals.
Speaking at a pre-budget seminar organised by the Parliament of Zimbabwe in Harare this Thursday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa highlighted some of the new dispensation’s achievements in the media sector.
“The new dispensation has been working hard in ensuring that there is a level playing field by repealing repressive laws and we are currently in the process of licensing more radio and television stations.”
Senator Mutsvangwa also appealed for a significant budget allocation towards her ministry as it is a critical sector in achieving Vision2030.
“A Budget should be set aside for the training of journalists as they play a pivotal role in telling the Zimbabwean story, they are the ones who unpack government programmes to the people.”
The three-day seminar which started today is expected to end on Saturday.
