The pre-planting producer price for the 2022 cotton marketing season has been pegged at over 111 Zimbabwe dollars per kilogramme for the crop not funded by government.
Speaking to ZBC News,Agriculture Marketing Authority, Chief Executive Officer Clever Isaya said the development is expected to incentivise farmers to produce more cotton and will be reviewed during the selling season.
“The Agriculture Marketing Authority wishes to advise all stakeholders in the agricultural sector that government has set the pre-planting producer prices for the 2021-2022 Agricultural Season for cotton as follows; Cotton produced under Pfumvudza/Intwasa Scheme ZWL63.23 per kilogram and cotton financed under non-Government funded arrangements ZWL111.17 per kilogram. In relation to contractors who have availed inputs for cotton production, support given can be deducted to come up with the relevant producer price. For the avoidance of doubt, these prices do not apply to deliveries for the 2020/21 season which will continue to be paid at the prevailing selling prices for the 2020/21 season,” he said.
