Government has urged all civil servants to get vaccinated as a protective measure to ensure citizens are served in a safe environment.

Speaking during a ZBC Current Affairs programme, Face the Nation, this Tuesday, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima reiterated that government is prioritising vaccination to contain the ravaging pandemic.

This comes as Zimbabwe has so far recorded 85,732 Covid-19 infections, a quarter of them since end of June, while 2,697 people have succumbed to the pandemic.

“All public servants must be vaccinated. That is the only way that we can assure Zimbabwe we will continue to provide services that can sustain Zimbabweans and keep our workers safe,” he said.

Government says it is committed to working with stakeholders in the National Joint Negotiation Council to continue improving conditions of service for civil servants.

“Government is working on reducing the salary gaps existing in the civil service.”

Meanwhile, the public service has decongested its work force by 25 % to create a safe working environment as the nation grapples with covid 19.
