By ZBC Reporter

GOVERNMENT has dismissed claims by some sections of the media that the nationwide farm downsizing exercise is discriminatory.

Speaking at a media briefing this Thursday, Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister, Retired Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri set the record straight following a malicious report carried by a local weekly publication claiming that the government has targeted two white farmers in Mashonaland West province in fresh land seizures.

” Firstly, both farmers Mr Drummond and Mr Davenport are beneficiaries of the Land Reform Program. Both farmers are domiciled in area, in Mashonaland West Province where the maximum farm size is 500ha by virtue of this area falling under natural ecological region II,”

Minister Shiri also emphasised that the nationwide farm downsizing exercise is non- discriminatory.

“Let me categorically state that the implementation process is being done religiously without any bias, discrimination, nepotism and favouritism,” he said.

He added that his ministry has an open-door policy where those with issues pertaining to the farm downsizing policy can approach the relevant authorities.

Minister Shiri advised private media houses to be well versed with the changes in land laws to avoid misleading the public.
