THE government ministries and departments have tabled 2021 budget proposals worth $1,1 trillion, with treasury promising adjustments to balance revenue inflows and spending.
Responding to issues raised and budget requests, Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube said treasury will review the proposals taking into account the size of the economy.
The treasury chief said while the government is committed to ensuring adequate allocation of resources, there is, however, need to balance revenue inflows and spending.
“Resources will not be adequate but we remain committed to seeing to it that we can sail through and moving on to a budget that meets the needs of all. ”
Professor Mthuli Ncube said the government is focusing on increased revenue inflows.
Proposals raised at the meeting include civil service reforms, support to productive sectors, increased devolution allocations, review of tax-free thresholds, support to energy supplies and covid-19 relief packages.
Others include increased allocations to the health and education sectors, review of government fees, tax concessions and favourable taxation systems, among others.
