Government gears up for summer cropping season

THE Government has intensified preparations for the summer cropping season with four financing models expected to be rolled out for farmers.

This came out during Thursday’s National Assembly Question and Answer Session where legislators sought clarity on preparations for the summer cropping season and payment modalities.

The Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka revealed that government has come up with four financing models.

“We are geared for the season where GMB is set to clear outstanding payment to farmers with the week. We will also announce wheat price next week. In terms of preparations for the season, we now have four financing models – self-financing, Presidential inputs, AFC and CBZ and another banking facility,” he said.

The Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honorable Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, gave an insight into government’s plans to regularise settlements.

“We have started off with Epworth were we are in the process to collate information so that the title deeds are issued. After Epworth, we are moving to other areas such as Glen View,” he said.

The welfare of content creators was also brought to the fore.

“As a ministry, we are in the process of crafting a multi-million-dollar industry. We also crafting a policy that content creators get value for their money and to monetise their products so that they get full value of this,” said the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Kindness Paradza.

Attention was also drawn to the issue of drug and substance abuse with a ministerial statement on progress made in dealing with the social ill expected in the next session.
