ZIMBABWEANS have been urged to remain vigilant and continue adhering to COVID-19 preventive measures after a new variant was detected in South Africa.

In response to the new Covid-19 variant, Omicron, the government is urging citizens not to panic as safety measures have already been put in place to prevent new cases.

This was revealed by the Chief Coordinator of the National response to the Covid-19 pandemic in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Agnes Mahomva during the ZBC’s Current Affairs programme Face the Nation this Tuesday.

“Communities need to step up in terms of vaccination. We have learnt lessons from previous waves and this can help us avoid a severe fourth wave,” said Dr Mahomva.

The omicron variant has been detected in South Africa, Botswana and some European countries.
