Government applauds Eureka Mine resuscitation

Government has applauded the resuscitation of Eureka Mine in Mashonaland Central province, which will start full scale operations between May and June.

Touring the mine in Guruve on Wednesday morning, the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Monitoring and Implementation of Government Programmes, Dr. Joram Gumbo, said the government desires resuscitation of all mining operations and exploitation of natural resources to ensure a massive economic turnaround in pursuit of the vision to attain an upper middle income economy by 2030.

Minister Gumbo emphasised surrounding communities should benefit from mining activities.

“It is the desire of the Second Republic to see the re-opening of all mining operations and a proper exploitation of natural resources to ensure a massive economic turn around in pursuit of the vision to attain an upper middle-income economy by the year 2030,” he said.

Four hundred jobs have been created by Eureka and the number will rise to 1000 at full-scale production.

The mine expects to produce at least 15.6 tonnes in 10 years while further exploration will guide future activities.

Briefing the Minister, Eureka Gold Mine managing director Mr. James Bare said plant construction is now 89 percent complete and the to start full scale mining  between May and July 2021.

The minister proceeded to Kanyemba to witness border post activities and installation of electricity by the Rural Electrification Agency and Eureka.
