THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union will host a preseason tournament in Harare in two weeks as part of preparations for the upcoming Currie Cup slated for South Africa next month.
The men’s fifteens national rugby team, will next month have an opportunity to compete at the highest level when they take part in the Currie Cup slatted for South Africa.
Competing under the name, the Goshawks, Zimbabwe will battle for honours alongside Georgia, Kenya and Namibia.
Zimbabwe Rugby Union Vice president Martin Shone confirmed the team’s participation at the tournament with preparations already underway.
“We have been preparing for this cup and everything has been put in place for the upcoming tournament and we hope for the best from our guys.”
The Currie Cup will also serve as a platform to prepare for World cup qualifiers set for July in France.
“We are going to participate against Cote D’Ivoire in France in July and we are going to use this tournament as preparation for the world cup qualifiers, so we want by all means to see our preparations from high-level competitions.”
In the World Cup qualifiers, Zimbabwe will square off with Cote D’Ivoire, with the winner going through to the semi-finals to meet the winner between Namibia and Burkina Faso.
