Gomba freed on bail

FORMER Harare Mayor, Herbert Gomba, who is facing charges of perjury and violating the Electoral Act, has been freed on ZWL50 thousand bail.

Gomba, who is facing charges of Electoral fraud, was remanded to the 27th of April by Harare regional magistrate, Stanford Mambanje.

Part of his bail conditions include reporting once every week to the police while his passport which he had already surrendered to the court will remain with the State until the matter is finalised

Gomba allegedly provided false information to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) during the 2017 voter registration exercise.

It is alleged that Gomba registered 22 voters with his address and also registered as a voter using his parents’ Glen Norah address.

The court heard that the accused fraudulently registered the 22 people who were not from ward 27 for his benefit since he was contesting for a municipal seat in that ward.

It is alleged that Gomba’s actions caused the fraudulent registration of the 22 people to manipulate the electoral process in his favour.
