THE Zimbabwe Netball team the Gems began the Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association tournament (COSANA) on a good note after a 48-36 win against Namibia in Blantyre Malawi this Sunday.

Just like at the Pent series last year, the Gems went ahead to meet a familiar foe in the opening match of the Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association tournament in Malawi.

The Gems opened the tri-nations cup with new faces who were geared up for their debut, while Namibia were hoping to revenge after the pent series defeat.

Going into the match, it was a matter of taking turns in leading, but the Gems owned the space to take a 14-9 lead in the first quarter.

The desert jewels tried to catch up in the second quarter, but the shining Gems dominated both the attack and defence which they ended at 24-16.

In the third quarter, Zimbabwe kept maintaining the gap as Namibia were finding it difficult to make a turnover after losing by 37-24.

The last quarter did not make any difference as it remained Zimbabwe’s centre pass which they concluded with a 48-36 win.

Zimbabwe will face a stiffer opponent, Malawi this Monday.

The tri-nations cup is also an opportune platform to prepare for the 2023 Netball World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Cape Town South Africa In August.
