Gems Manchester tour in limbo

THE Zimbabwe netball team, the Gems’ international tour set for next month is uncertain due to lack of clarity from the organisers regarding the games.

After finishing second in the tri-nations Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Association tournament, the Gems have now shifted attention to the friendly games set for Manchester next month.

However, the Gems’ trip to the United Kingdom appears in doubt as there has been no clear communication from the organisers on whether the games will go ahead.

Contacted for comment, Zimbabwe Netball Association President Letitia Chipandu confirmed that the organisers are facing financial challenges.

The Gems were invited by Ree Sports through their Director Godfrey Mugadza to compete against elite European countries as part of preparations for the world cup qualifiers.

However, this has not deterred the Gems with the team set to go into camp this weekend to prepare for the 2023 Netball World Cup qualifiers slated for Pretoria in August.

The team, which will be boosted by the presence of skipper Felistas Kwangwa, hopes to qualify for their second World Cup after 2019 debut in Liverpool.
