Former VP Mphoko trial postponed again

FORMER Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has changed his defence counsel in a development that is set to further delay the commencement of his criminal abuse of office trial.
There was drama in court this Thursday as former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s lawyer, Zibusiso Ncube arrived late for the case seeking postponement of the trial.
Ncube argued that Mphoko had finally settled for a new lawyer, Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba, who needs more time to prepare for trial and can only avail himself on the 13th of next month.
Mphoko who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office has been delaying the commencement of his trial by filing a number of applications, a move which has been noted as a cause for concern by the presiding magistrate in the matter, Magistrate Hosea Mujaya.
The state told the court that the continued postponement is now affecting witnesses.
Mpoko’s trial is now set for the 13th next month. Mphoko is being charged for ordering the release of former ZINARA bosses, Engineer Moses Juma and Davison Norupiri who had been arrested on corruption charges.
