THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested five people in connection with armed robbery occurred in Marimba, Harare.
In a statement, ZRP Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Blessing Chishaka said the five are part of the 15-member gang who attacked a complainant at his brother’s house armed with machete, knives and three pistols.
“Police in Harare have arrested Taurai Dzingai (46), Godfrey Rufurwokuda (44), Nabal Prosper Moyo (25), Kenneth Madondo (35) and Munyaradzi Chikarara (35) following a case of armed robbery which occurred in marimba, Harare on 08 January 2020 at around 20:20 hours. One of the accused persons has since succumbed to the injuries he sustained following a shoot-out with police officers. The five were part of the fifteen-member gang who attacked a complainant at his brother’s house armed with machetes, knives and three pistols,” said Chief Superintendent Blessing Chishaka.
It is alleged that they tied the complainant with shoelace, assaulted him, demanding to know where his brother kept his money.
The accused persons stole a small metal safe containing ZAR 13000, and other valuables which were in the complainant’s bedroom.
In another case, the police said on 9 January 2020 five unknown male adults who were armed with a pistol forced the door of a certain house open in Budiriro where they stole money amounting to ZWL9000 and other valuables which were in a box.
“Criminals and like-minded elements are strongly warned that they will ultimately be accounted for as police officers will leave no stone unturned to bring them to book. Crime does not pay, be warned,” he said.
