INSTITUTIONS for children with disabilities in Masvingo, have started reaping benefits of the First Lady’s goat rearing project launched in 2018.
In a move meant to improve the livelihoods of the vulnerable members of society, the First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa donated 1 000 goats to various institutions in Masvingo Province two years ago.
In an interview with ZBC news, Henry Murray School for the Deaf Acting Headmaster, Elastos Zishamba revealed that the project has become a long-lasting solution to nutritional challenges which were being faced by his institution.
“We are happy to have this project which was initiated by the First Lady, we appreciate in the sense that our children can now have relish in terms of usavi. They used to eat a lot of vegetables now they can also have mutton,” he said.
Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial affairs, Ezra Chadzamira visited the institution on Saturday to assess the viability of the project.
“We are happy that the project has flourished though they have challenges that include water and the bad road network,” said the minister.
Other beneficiaries of the initiative include Copota School for the Blind and Chambuta children’s home.
