Fire destroys Chinhoyi house

PROPERTY worth thousands of dollars was destroyed after a house in Chinhoyi’s St Ives suburb was razed down by fire this Tuesday.

The fire incident at the house owned by a prominent Chinhoyi-based doctor occurred at around half past six this Tuesday morning.

A 21-year-old lady who was the only occupant at the time is lucky to be alive after she was rescued by neighbours who gained entry after breaking the security screen gate.

She was rushed to hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

“We managed to break the screen bars after a struggle and had to take the risk of being burnt after we had there was someone in the house who had not escaped. We also managed to salvage just a bit of household effects like sofas. Had it not been for the high security we could have saved a lot from destruction, but we took a lot of time trying to gain entry into the house,” a witness said.

With Chinhoyi municipality having no functional fire tender, no efforts were made to extinguish the inferno.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established but it is believed to have been caused by either an electrical fault or a gas tank explosion.
