Zimbabwe on course to meet national housing target

Story by Wellington Makonese

Government is on course to meet its target of constructing 225 000 housing units by 2025, with 185 000 housing units having been built across the country through public-private partnerships.

This has been necessitated by collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector, according to the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities Hon Daniel Garwe.

“There are two targets for the country under NDS1. We have delivered on that as Government, through various institutions. Individuals have delivered 185 000 housing units in the country. We are on course,” he said.

Pan African financing institution for housing Shelter Afrique, which is in the country on a fact-finding mission after last year’s Victoria Falls Conference, is keen to support all sectors.

Zimbabwe is currently chairing Shelter Afrique and is in the top five nations set to benefit from the financing model which is key to the attainment of the country’s national housing development vision.
