ZANU PF council primary election reruns set for Saturday

Story by Memory Chamisa

THE ruling ZANU PF party is set to conduct local authority primary election reruns in 27 Wards this Saturday.

The date for the council primary election rerun was announced by ZANU PF National Political Commissar Dr Mike Bimha saying some wards were affected by the delimitation exercise.

“Most people did not know or were not sure of the delimitation of their wards hence some were affected. Others still have pending court cases so had to withdraw and in some cases, ties were recorded as well as violence. So the reruns are going to settle all that,” said Dr Bimha.

Dr Bimha applauded youths for coming on board and for the democratic nature of the internal party process.

“These primary elections witnessed young blood coming in to contest which is very pleasing to note that the party is very democratic, people chose candidates that they want to represent them in Parliament, Senate, and Councils.

“No candidate was imposed by leadership, people chose their own candidates showing the democratic process in the ruling party. In terms of democracy, ZANU PF has come of age,” he said.

A total of six provinces which include Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Matabeleland North, Harare Metropolitan and Matabeleland South are set to hold the primary election reruns to choose candidates who will represent the ruling party in local authority elections.

Zimbabwe is set to hold general elections between July and August this year.
