VP Chiwenga in Iran for economic conference

Story by Abigirl Tembo

Vice President, General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, has arrived in Tehran, Iran, to participate in the Second Iran-Africa International Economic Conference.

He was welcomed at Mehrabad International Airport by Iranian Minister of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare, Mr Solat Mortazavi, and Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Iran, Ambassador Bright Kupemba.

The four-day conference, expected to draw representatives from over 40 African nations, signifies Iran’s renewed focus on building economic partnerships with the African continent.

Discussions will center on expanding trade, exploring investment opportunities, and fostering cooperation in various sectors.

Vice President Chiwenga’s presence underscores Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening its economic ties with Iran.

Last year, Zimbabwe and Iran signed twelve Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in areas like health and agriculture during a state visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

The upcoming conference provides a platform to build on these agreements and explore new avenues for collaboration.
