Russia to collaborate with Zimbabwe in sports development

THE Russian Federation has expressed commitment to working with Zimbabwe in developing the sports sector.

This came out when Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga met the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mr Dmitry Chernyshenko on the sidelines of the Games of the Future in Kazan, Russia.

After the successful planning and rollout of the inaugural Phygital Games of the Future in Kazan, Mr Chernyshenko said his country is willing to share notes with Zimbabwe in the sports sector.

“Should you have liked the concept of the game, I would like to propose that Zimbabwe consider establishing the national confederation of the games of the future and we are willing to assist. Our countries are linked by a relationship of love and kindness and we would like it to continue like that for the benefit of us all. Besides sport, we are also interested in extending to other sectors like health, education and agriculture to mention but a few,” he said.

Vice President Chiwenga expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for its unwavering support.

“We have managed to see our relationship grow over the years. The government of Zimbabwe appreciates the support from the Russian government. I want to express our gratitude on your corporation in the field of science and technology. Allow me to take note of the great cooperation taking place. We want to inform you that the pledge of fertiliser and wheat you gave to our country arrived and we want to salute you for honoring the pledge and as a country we will stand by your government just like you have stood with us in good and bad times,” he said.

Vice President Chiwenga is accompanied by officials from the Ministries of Information, Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services as well as Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.

The inaugural phygital games of the future officially opened this Wednesday and were graced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The official opening ceremony was also attended by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, among other world leaders and dignitaries.

Games of the Future is a phygital competition combining conventional and digital sports.

It includes 21 disciplines from five areas such as sport, tactics, strategy, technology and speed.

More than 2 000 athletes from over 100 countries are taking part in the competition which ends on the 3rd of March.
