Hwange residents worried about depleting water supplies

Story by Mhlomuli Ncube

Residents of Hwange Rural are living in fear of continuously depleting water supplies particularly at a time there is cholera scourge in the country and region.

In the community, no science is required to decipher the state of water affairs, with residents saying their livestock is being affected by the visibly dirty precious liquid flowing, calling for an immediate solution to the crisis.

“We wake up early to try and get water. This borehole usually runs dry before it serves all of us and is not adequate,” a resident told the ZBC News.

Another said, “When we bath in this water, we get itches and we know it is because of this water.”

“All we want is water, but what we have is not helping us as it is making us sick and our livestock is getting affected,” added another resident.

Depleted water supplies remain a cause for concern in different communities in Hwange and hope is that the nearby Deka Pipeline ferrying water from the Zambezi River would provide the much needed respite for the affected communities.
