Honourable Advocate Jacob Mudenda embarked on a significant Bilateral Parliamentary visit to Maputo, Mozambique from April 28th to May 4th, 2024, accompanied by fellow esteemed members of the Zimbabwean Parliament.

 The primary objective of this diplomatic mission was to fortify the existing cordial political and economic relations between the two sister Republics, explore areas of potential cooperation and share best Parliamentary practices.

The visit was highlighted by a momentous meeting at the Mozambican Parliament, where Speaker Mudenda and Honourable Esperança Bias, Speaker of the National Assembly of Mozambique, engaged in meaningful discussions aimed at solidifying the fraternal relations between the two countries.

Speaker Bias acknowledged Zimbabwe’s timely support during challenging times, expressing gratitude for the unwavering solidarity.

She also commended Zimbabwe’s role in supporting Mozambique in the face of adversities, highlighting the growth of the Mozambican GDP despite the challenges faced, emphasising the need for continued collaboration.

Hon Mudenda emphasised the shared African identity and historical ties that bind the two nations together, invoking the legacy of past leaders and the enduring quest for freedom and independence.

Reflecting on the strategic importance of Mozambique in Zimbabwe’s journey to self-determination, Speaker Mudenda underlined the symbiotic relationship that transcends borders and time.

The visit also encompassed solemn tributes at the Heroes Square in Maputo, a captivating tour of the bustling Port of Maputo and a gracious dinner hosted by Speaker Bias, reinforcing the imperative of strengthening bilateral ties for mutual prosperity.

The Speakers accentuated the importance of robust friendship and trust underpinning the bilateral relations, echoing the shared commitment to continued collaboration and prosperity between the two sister Republics, culminating in expressing well-wishes for Mozambique’s forthcoming electoral process in October 2024.

Hon. Advocate Mudenda’s visit exemplified a poignant narrative of friendship, solidarity and shared aspirations, reaffirming the enduring bonds between Zimbabwe and Mozambique in the panorama of regional diplomacy.
