CCC seeks dialogue with ZANU PF

Story by Bruce Chahwanda, Political Editor

THE crisis-ridden opposition Citizens Coalition for Change has appealed for dialogue with the ruling ZANU PF party.

This comes after a turbulent week in which 15 of their legislators have been recalled from Parliament by the party’s interim secretary-general, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu.

Almost two months after the general elections, the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is now proposing dialogue with the ruling ZANU PF party.

Briefing journalists after the 18th Citizens National Assembly meeting, CCC leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa said his organisation wants SADC-facilitated dialogue, which is outside the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD).

“We have reached out to ZANU PF, building bridges with the whole world to unite the nation. We want SADC to help on dialogue because fighting doesn’t help, As a party, we are not going to join POLAD,” he said.

Despite calling for a SADC-facilitated dialogue, Advocate Chamisa ordered his legislators and councillors to disengage for the next 14 days.

He added, “The meeting resolved that our legislators disengage from parliament, no business shall be transacted.”

The move comes after political analysts have identified loopholes in the CCC’s doctrine of strategic ambiguity saying it reveals confusion of the author considering that dialogue and disengagement cannot work hand in glove.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa won 52.6% of the vote against Nelson Chamisa’s 44% in the August 23 general elections.
