ZIMBABWE’S representatives in the CAF Champions League FC Platinum are ready to take on Angolan champions, Sagrada Esperanca in a preliminary round encounter set for Luanda this Saturday.
FC Platinum will make their sixth appearance in the CAF Champions League this Saturday at the Municipal Stadium in Luanda against Angolan champions, Sagrada Esperanca who have been in this competition twice.
The Zimbabwean Champions have a better record in the Champions league having been to the group stages twice as compared to their counterparts who have never gone past the first round.
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza is not reading much into statistics as he is predicting a tough encounter.
“They are a very dangerous team very fast on the break and they are good on the set piece, coupled with that they are in a better shape than us their league has been active and they recently won the league. Having said that though we need a good result and we hoping for a win,” said Mapeza.
The Zvishavane based side arrived in Angola this Thursday and conducted two training sessions at the match venue ahead of the encounter.
Elsewhere, former Dynamos and Warriors coach, Kalisto Pasuwa’s Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi are in South Africa to take on Benni McCarthy coached AmaZulu in the same competition.
Pasuwa has won back-to-back league titles since joining Bullets in 2018 and his team is on course to earning him a treble as they hold a three-point lead at the top of the domestic league.
However, Bullets have not translated their form to continental football as they were eliminated by FC Platinum in 2019.
Bullets are Malawi’s biggest club having won a record 14 league titles.
