BINDURA: Ex-cabinet minister Nicholas Goche was arrested Wednesday night over stock theft allegations, police have confirmed.
The former labour and social welfare minister was expected to appear before a Bindura court Thursday.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.
He said some time in 2018, Goche reportedly sold 40 beasts worth US$35,600 to one Honest Mupanedengu of Series Farm in Shamva.
The complainant took delivery of 22 steers for slaughter but was unable to transport the remaining 18 to Chiredzi due to a foot and mouth disease outbreak.
Mupanedengu alleges he was finally cleared by the veterinary department to transport the cattle valued at US$18 000 only to discover they had been sold.
He filed a police report leading to the arrest of Goche.
The former Zanu PF politburo member served in cabinet holding a number of portfolios until 2014.
He was then sacked after being accused of trying to kill the President as part of a coup
