Every citizen will have access to food: VP Mohadi

By ZBC Reporter
The government will marshal all its resources to ensure that no one dies of hunger.
This was said by Vice President, Kembo Mohadi after meeting United Nations resident coordinator Ms Maria Ribeiro in Harare this Friday.
In line with her pledge to continue building on the long-standing engagement with Zimbabwe, the newly seconded united nations resident coordinator Ms Maria Ribeiro paid a courtesy call on Vice President Kembo Mohadi at Munhumutapa offices this Friday.
The two held discussions on how best issues of food insecurity in the country can be addressed.
As a result of the unprecedented Cyclone Idai which hit some parts of the country in March last year, the country requires food assistance and the government will ensure that no one starves.
United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms Maria Ribeiro pledged the international organisation’s commitment to mitigating the adverse effects of drought and to continue working closely with the government rendering the necessary humanitarian assistance.
The United Nations has been providing support to the government in various sectors aimed at promoting national development along internationally agreed frameworks.
With humanitarian assistance not a long-term solution to the socio-economic challenges, the government is working on addressing causes of the humanitarian needs.
