AS government moves towards connecting all schools and tertiary institutions to the digital world in line with the national E-learning strategy, eight computer laboratories have been officially commissioned in Masvingo.

The message from the government is clear with Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere saying the country’s development will be defined by safe use of ICTs.

“Our country’s security, peace and development will be defined by safe use of new technologies hence all efforts to ensure our people including in schools have access to ICTs,” he said.

To ensure that no one is left behind, another fully furnished computer laboratory was commissioned at Copota School of the Blind alongside a Public Finance Management Kiosk in the Central Business District.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has since adopted the use of ICTs in the new curriculum as the nation drives towards an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

“ICT in schools is regarded as the game changer and the surest guarantee that we meet 2030 vision,” said Edward Shumba, the Acting Chief Director in the ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services has since come up with the SMART Zimbabwe 2030 master plan in line with the National Development Strategy One (NDS1), which is meant to promote the use of ICTs.
