Easter Open Chess tourney enters day two

BRIGHTON Joshua dominated day two of the ongoing Easter Open Chess Tournament in Harare following his impressive displays after 6 rounds of the fiesta this Saturday, while Colleta Wakuruwarehwa and Kudzanayi Charinda are leading the ladies section leaderboard.
In his third tournament, Brighton Joshua has come back stronger after years on the sidelines of the game.
After 6 rounds of play, Joshua is yet to taste defeat, dismissing anyone who comes his way and earning himself 6 points in the process, while Tapiwa Gora, Roy Mwadzura and defending champion, Candidate Master Emarald Mushore are tied on second with 5 points each.
In the ladies category, another seasoned player, Colleta Wakuruwarehwa and Candidate Master Kudzanayi Charinda are battling for top honours as they are tied on 41/2 each after 6 rounds.
Interestingly, all the other ladies top seeds namely; Linda Shaba, Christine Makwena and Tatenda Zengeni are tied on position 2 with 4 points apiece while defending champion, Refiloe Chidodo is tied on third position with 3 others on three points.
The developmental Under-16 section has seen Tawanda Mhako, Christian Nyatsambo and Tinaye Katsande tussling for top position as they are all on 5 so far, followed by Takunda Simuchembu, Saironzi Gavi and Tafadzwa Muriro who have 4 points each in 6 rounds of play.
With two more rounds to go before the curtain comes down on the 2021 first ever over-the-board tournament, it is yet to be seen who will win the big prize.
