Dry spell continues in Chiredzi

FARMERS in Chiredzi have bemoaned the persistent dry spell which has left them and their livestock vulnerable to drought.
While some areas have received a bit of rain, Chiredzi district has not been so lucky leaving farmers in a state of panic.
Most farmers have not yet planted for the summer cropping season while a few that have done have seen their crops wilting under severe moister stress.
The livestock situation is also dire forcing farmers to abandon their local grazing lands and look for pastures elsewhere.
Despite the sad situation, the government is working on a number of modalities including drought relief programs.
Plans are also underway to construct more dams for irrigation purposes.
