THE introduction of hybrid pastures to farmers under the Presidential Pasture Scheme has started bearing fruit with thousands of farmers getting access to the drought tolerant pastures.

Agriculture Research Board chief executive officer, Mr Xavier Mhike has applauded the coming in of a range of research products with much focus on the livestock growth plan that has seen the successful introduction of pastures such as Lab Lab, Katambora and other feed which he says will go a long way in improving the livestock heard countrywide.

Speaking on the sidelines a field day held at Easi Seeds demo plots in Harare, the organisation’s Group Chief Executive Officer John Makoni acknowledged the successful implementation of the first phase of pasture seed distribution to most farmers in the country.

“As an organisation support the governments national development goals, which speaks more on enhanced economic practise and improvement on our livestock herd,” he said.

Since the government embarked on the presidential pasture scheme, over 500 000 households countrywide have received inputs for pastures which are drought-tolerant and can consistently supply farmers with livestock feed throughout the season.
