DEMOCRATIC Republic of Congo Special Envoy Mr Didier Muzenga Makanzu has met President Emmerson Mnangagwa to lobby Zimbabwe to support their candidate, Mr Faustin Mokela Luanga, who is vying for the SADC Executive Secretary Post.
The post will become vacant at the next SADC Summit to be held in Malawi from 9 to 19 August 2021.
Heads of State will choose the replacement for outgoing Executive Secretary Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax, with hosts Botswana and the DRC vying for the top post.
“The DRC came to ask for Zimbabwe’s support so that the DRC presents its candidate because it is the only outside country that can present for a top post.
Botswana as the host country is automatic to get a post, so we came with that message from His Excellency to get the support of Zimbabwe,” said Mr Makanzu.
