ZANU PF Women’s League Secretary for Administration, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa described the late former Zambian President as pan-Africanist who championed African Unity.

Kenneth Kaunda’s long life combined all attributes that shine in the best of humanity. He was a nationalist who fought and won freedom for Zambia. He was a Pan-Africanist who championed African Unity and total continental freedom through the OAU. He was a militant liberator. He defied and thwarted the post-World War 11 British schemes to perpetuate a moribund colonial order rooted in racist and apartheid white minority regimes of Southern Africa, she said.

Senator Mutsvangwa said for women, victories are not gifts but hard worn trophies of gender shared struggles for freedom.

As the Women’s League of the sub-region our victories are not gifts but hard won trophies of our gender shared struggles for freedom. Without KK’s vision and succor the root to freedom and gender equality would have been longer, tortuous and tormenting. As mothers we also recall KK’s valiant and pioneering fight against the scourge of HIV-AIDS. This was after he lost his first son,she added.

The late former Zambian President’s state funeral will be held this Friday in Lusaka, Zambia, with his burial set for the 7th of this month.
