Division one battle for promotion hots up

By Lawrence Trusida

THE battle for the sole ticket to the top flight takes another twist in the ZIFA Northern Region this weekend as second placed Herentals Under-20 host third placed Golden Eagles at Motor Action Sports club this Saturday.

With the two teams separated by just one point and hunting down Simba Bhora, the match promises to be a cracker.

The two teams dropped points in their previous matches and will be looking for nothing short of maximum points.

A victory for Herentals who have a game in hand will take them back to the top of the log, while Eagles will be tied on points with Simba Bhora if they win.

Log leaders Simba Bhora take on bottom-placed Cam and Motor at Rimuka stadium in Kadoma.

Going into the weekend fixtures, Simba Bhora are on 57 points after 26 matches, while Herentals are second with 55 points, having played a game less, with Golden Eagles on 54 points.

In the Southern Region it’s again second versus third as ZPC Hwange host Arenel in a mouth-watering encounter.

With just four games to go, the losers of that encounter might just kiss their promotion hopes good bye as log leaders Hwange FC have a five point cushion.

Log leaders Hwange take on Ratanang and they know another victory will push them towards a return to the Premier Soccer league.

The Central and Eastern regions are both on a break, with action scheduled to return next week.
