Diplomats based in Botswana condemn sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe

TEN Ambassadors accredited to Botswana met at Zimbabwe’s embassy in Gaborone where they united in condemning the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West.
Speaking at the event, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Botswana, Batiraishe Henry Mukonoweshuro applauded SADC member states for supporting the country’s cause.
Dean of African Ambassadors, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mozambique, His Excellency Domingos Fernandes also rallied behind Zimbabwe in calling for the lifting of the illegal embargoe.
Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, H.E. Zhao Yanbo also reiterated the need to for the West to respect sovereignty and self-governance as the corner stone of democracy.
This comes a day after the SADC region commemorated the second anniversary of the regional block’s anti-sanctions day which saw leaders and ordinary people from across the globe rallying behind the call for the unconditional lifting of the illegal embargo imposed on Zimbabwe.
In his SADC anti-sanctions day speech, President Emmerson Mnangagwa paid homage to Zimbabweans who have suffered the brunt of the illegal embargo but have nonetheless continued to make huge sacrifices to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This year’s commemorations were held under the theme: ‘Resilience, Progress and Solidarity under an environment of sanctions.’
