REIGNING Champions, FC Platinum have officially unveiled former Highlanders Technical Manager, Hendrik Pieter de Jongh as their substantive head coach.De Jongh becomes the first European expatriate and second foreigner to guide pure platinum play after Zambian Tenant Chilumba.
Call it fishing from financially weak teams or a popular trait among Dutch expatriates to go for what glitters the most, FC Platinum have officially unveiled Hendrik Pieter de Jongh as their head coach. The UEFA B Coaching licence holder openly admitted he had to dump Highlanders for FC Platinum after admiring the professional organisation at the Zvishavane based side where the contract was too good to resist.
“When I came here for a league match, I admired the organisation at FC Platinum. As an ambitious coach, I had to settle for Platinum and my immediate task at hand is to work for an improvement in their style of play,” he said. FC Platinum also unveiled Tembo Chuma, formerly with relegated Telone as their new goalkeepers’ coach.
“Not taking away what the former goalkeepers’ coach did here, I think I will add the missing ingredient,” said Chuma.
FC Platinum Chairman, Evans Mtombeni said they had to take some painful decisions to bring some changes to the technical team as they are aiming to improve their performance.
“We were in a tight scenario where Lizwe Sweswe delivered a third PSL title and took us to the CAF mini-league but we had to go for experience,”said Mtombeni.
Lizwe Sweswe presided over the last 12 league games of the season helping FC Platinum to win their third successive league title after the departure of Norman Mapeza.
If all goes according to plan, De Jongh will make an emotional return to Barbourfields stadium when pure platinum play take on Egyptian giants Al Ahly this weekend.
