Cyber -attacks cited as global threat to economic stability

A call has been made for Zimbabweans to work with law enforcement agents in combating cyber-crime which has become global threat.

In his remarks during a conference held at Zimbabwe National Defence University this Thursday, the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere did not mince his words on the need for unity of purpose in fighting cyber-crime.

I call upon all the respective stakeholders like POTRAZ, the Central bank, Service providers and law enforcement agencies to collaborate in combating this scourge so as to protect our citizens. Today, we are here to conscientise you on the risks we are faced with as a nation and the need to work together to ensure that the cyber space is safe and stimulating for everyone, especially businesses, he said.

Zimbabwe National Defence University Lecturer, Colonel Kudzai Mwalamba said the ZDF is prepared to deal with any cyber related threats.

As the members of the ZDF we are prepared through the training of our officers and men. We impart cyber security knowledge to our members, said Mwalaba.

Government has come up with several initiatives to combat cyber threats with the operatinalisation of the Cyber and Data Protection Bill expected to close the net on cyber criminals.
