Sunny Yifeng Tiles duped ZAR 2.6 million

Story by Fungai Jachi, Courts Reporter

A local Chinese tile manufacturing company has lost over two million Rand to a Chinese national who allegedly presented himself as a potential buyer.

The accused, Hu Dong, who resides in South Africa, allegedly approached Sunny Yifeng Tiles Company in Norton to purchase tiles.

It is alleged that on three separate occasions, Hu received tiles which were delivered to a South African address.

The court heard that Hu became evasive and failed to pay for the tiles worth 2.6 million Rand.

He was arrested after he visited the company and attempted to use the same ploy to acquire more tiles.

Hu was remanded in custody to this Friday for bail application.

Meanwhile, a 78-year-old senior lawyer, Simplicius Chihambakwe has been dragged to court for allegedly stealing over US$100 000 from a client.

It is alleged that Chihambakwe, who was an executor for the complainant’s deceased parents, was instructed to sell some properties with cash meant to be for the Master of the High Court’s legal fees.

The court heard that Chihambakwe did not pay the Master of the High Court as instructed and converted the money to his use.

The accused prejudiced the complainant of US$154 000.
