Another Harare City Council employee in court for fraud

Story by Fungai Jachi

ANOTHER Harare City Council employee has been embroiled in a fraud scandal involving over US$200 000.

Suspended Harare Municipal Medical Aid Society chief executive officer, Everisto Rukasha has been dragged to court on allegations of siphoning US$246 000 from the city council’s medical aid society coffers.

It is alleged that the accused collected cash from the finance department but failed to hand over part of the money to the medical aid society.

He is alleged to have siphoned a total of US$246 000 in cash.

The 56-year-old Rukasha who appeared in court this Friday was released on US$500 bail pending trial.

Rukasha’s arrest comes hardly a week after a former Harare City Council clerk, Emmanuel Dzinomurindi appeared in court for allegedly defrauding his employer of over US$4 million and ZW$60 million.

He was remanded in custody to the 18th of this month.
