ZIMBABWE’S COVID-19 confirmed cases are now at 160 following 11 confirmed cases yesterday, these include 9 returnees from Botswana and South Africa and 2 local cases who are all isolated.
This follows a major spike in cases in the country by over 70 cases on Wednesday. The 76 new cases were recorded in Beitbridge, Masvingo and Harare.
With the bulk of those testing positive being imported cases, the country is facing a major challenge following reports of returnees either escaping or absconding quarantine centres countrywide. On Friday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police revealed that and a total number of 148 returnees escaped from quarantine centres across the country and the public has now been urged to report any returnee who might have escaped or absconded the mandatory 21-day quarantine to authorities.
Of the 148 reported to have escaped only 23 had been arrested on Friday.
The ZRP is urging the public to report all suspected escapees who might have joined communities without completing the COVID 19 screening process designed for returnees by the Government.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa this week revealed that about one thousand Zimbabweans mostly cruise ship workers, are docking in Namibia awaiting to be repatriated back home and the government is intensifying efforts to mobilise resources to fight COVID-19 in the wake of increasing positive cases.
