Covid-19 Update: Chiredzi Taskforce on high alert

CHIREDZI District Covid-19 Taskforce has said foreigners who come in through illegal points of entry amid the COVID-19 pandemic puts the Chiredzi community under threat of being exposed to imported cases due to the fact that the evade quarantine.
Chiredzi has not recorded any COVID-19 case however following continuous reports of people who are entering the district through illegal points from South Africa and Mozambique, the Chiredzi District Covid-19 Taskforce says it remains on high alert.
Speaking during the Chiredzi District Covid-19 Taskforce meeting, Chairperson Lovemore Chisema said to curb the spread of the virus community leaders and members in the district must also remain vigilant and report all cases of illegal entries.
“As the District Taskforce team we continue to engage our surrounding communities in the fight against Covid-19. We are receiving reports from traditional leaders and members of the community of people who are illegally sneaking into the town hence we have to up our game security-wise and ensure they go through quarantine procedures,” said Chisema.
The District Taskforce highlighted a number of challenges they face in ensuring that no foreigners enter the country without first being checked and screened for the Covid-19 virus that is plaguing the world over.
“Currently we have some challenges which include transport to ferry those who might be reported to have sneaked in as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) challenge in some of our health institutions, said the District COVID-19 Taskforce chair.
Speaking at the same function, Atul Palande from Coal Zimbabwe Company which donated some masks called upon the corporate sector in the Lowveld to render support in the fight against COVID-19.
“We have come with our small donation however we promise to continue supporting the cause hence my appeal to other corporate companies,” he said.
