A one stop COVID-19 Provincial Isolation and Treatment Centre has been commissioned at Chinhoyi hospital.
The facility is the first one in Mashonaland West Province to offer comprehensive COVID-19 treatment services.
Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Collet Mawire said the facility meets the requirements of an isolation and treatment centre, with ventilators and piped oxygen available.
The hospital is now ready and we have basically met the requirements of an isolation centre. We also have piped oxygen at 49 points and the centre has a carrying capacity of 55 patients. In addition, we also have a modern fully functional fire system and CCTV system to assist us to monitor our patients, she said.
Soon after a tour of the ward, the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Mary Mliswa said the development is a milestone for the province.
As a COVID-19 survivor the development is dear to my heart. As you know I had to be transferred to Harare because the province was not yet ready for covid-19 patients. We want to warn everyone that covid-19 is real. It’s not fun and games, noted Mliswa.
The commissioning of the COVID-19 Provincial Isolation and Treatment Centre comes as the country is battling to contain increasing infections and deaths from the virus.
