Covid-19: IMF and World Bank to assist countries with weaker health systems

THE International Monetary Fund and the World Bank has pledged to financially assist member countries posed with the threat of Covid-19 infection widely known as Coronavirus.
In a joint statement issued by the two institutions yesterday, resources in the form of emergency financing, policy advice and technical assistance would be issued to member countries with unstable health systems.
“We have engaged actively with international institutions and country authorities, with special attention to poor countries where health systems are the weakest and people are most vulnerable.
“International cooperation is essential to deal with the health and economic impact of the COVID-19 virus. The IMF and the World Bank Group are fully committed to provide the support that people in our member countries expect from us, ” reads the statement.
The IMF has since projected a negative global economic outlook since China, the epicentre the virus controls about 19% global economic share.
It has however cautioned member countries to continue strengthening their health system and intensify surveillance to curtail the spread of the infection.
So far the country has no reported cases of the infection and the Ministry of Health and Child Care has since assured the nation that it is closely monitoring the situation particularly those travelling from infected regions.
