COVID-19: 30 test positive at ZBC

By ZBC reporter

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) says 30 of its staff have tested positive to COVID-19 following PCR tests that were recently conducted on some of the workforce.

This follows last month’s incident where the public broadcaster had to suspend normal programming after one employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement, ZBC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ms Helliate Rushwaya said those who have tested positive have been advised to go into isolation, not to report for duty and follow guidelines from health officials.

Ms Rushwaya said management is fully aware of the anxiety amongst the workforce regarding the pandemic and will continue to vigilantly monitor and respond to new information and developments to protect the health and well-being of all staff.

She said periodic testing, disinfection of premises, provision of masks, gloves and sanitisers will continue at all ZBC stations across the country.

Ms Rushwaya said authorities will continue to further decongest the workplace, with only critical staff being expected to report for duty on a rotational basis.

She assured the nation that ZBC will continue to deliver on its national mandate as a public service provider.

Meanwhile, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Mr Nick Mangwana has wished the ZBC staff members who tested positive a quick recovery.
