Court suspends custodial sentence – Zim dancehall DJs to pay fine

Zimdancehall producer DJ Fantan, Chillspot Records co-founder Levelz and their colleague, Dammer are free men after the High Court suspended their custodial sentences this Wednesday.

The three Zim dancehall DJs whose real names are Arnold Kamudyariwa, Rodger Tafadzwa Kadzimwe and Simbarashe Chanachimwe were incarcerated for flouting lockdown regulations in January this year before they were freed on bail pending appeal after challenging the custodial sentence.

The trio got reprieve this Wednesday after the High Court ruled that they should all pay a fine of ZWL$2000 for their offence instead of serving a custodial sentence.

Meanwhile, the trial of police commissioner Erasmus Makodza, who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office continued this Wednesday with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigating officer, Mr Eric Chacha being fingered as a conflicted witness with the accused arguing that there is a history of bad blood between them.

The defence further argued that Chacha is being malicious as he is suing the accused in a matter which is before the High Court, hence making it prejudicial for the defence.

Still at the courts, the trial of former ZESA Chief Executive Officer Engineer Joshua Chifamba, who is facing criminal abuse of office charges, kicked off this Wednesday with the accused denying the charges saying the allegations being levelled against him are malicious and seek to tarnish his image.
