Cotton farmers optimistic of a bumper harvest

THE cotton crop planted under the Pfumvudza programme is doing well in Masvingo, with farmers optimistic of a bumper harvest on the back of good rains the country is receiving.

It is all smiles for cotton farmers in Masvingo, most of whom adopted the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme this season, as their crop is thriving.

With the good rains they continue to receive, the farmers are looking forward to get all chemicals needed in time so that their crop is not compromised.

The Pfumvudza/Intwasa climate proof concept has proved to be game changer for the country’s agriculture sector in boosting productivity given last year’s bumper harvest.

For the cotton sector under the Pfumvudza programme, farmers received free inputs from the government.

Again following the introduction of cotton subsidy, production has been increasing and according to the latest trading update by the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe, cotton deliveries increased by over 40 percent last year.
